Dorothy Mailander, 102, of Webster City died December 31, 2024 at Waverly Gardens in Morth Oaks, MN. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Dorothy was born in St. Paul, MN to Nickolas and Olga Dark. She travelled to Fairbanks, AK as a young woman. There she met John Mailander, he was stationed there with the United States Air Force. The couple married in Wiota, IA in 1949. During John’s 23 years in the Air Force they lived in Omaha, NE; Enid, OK; London, England; Fargo, ND and Duluth, MN. In 1964, the couple moved to Webster City, IA where they lived the rest of their lives.
She is survived by her sister, Ellen (John) Harding of Australia; son, Carl Mailander of Webster City, IA; daughters, Barbara (David) Roe of Huntersville, NC, Joan (Andrew) Ervin of White Bear Lake, MN, Susan Mailander of Sunnyvale, CA and Jean (Alan Shankland) Mailander of Medford, OR; grandson, Jason (Gretchen) Roe; granddaughters, Erin (Thad)Trantham and Emily (Matt) Stoffel; great granddaughter, Sarah and Abby Trantham, Blossom Roe and great grandson, Paul Roe.
Dorothy was a beloved “Grandma Lander” who will be missed everyday but will continue to inspire and guide us.
