Deslyn Schutt, 99, of Clarion, Iowa, died Thursday, April 17, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at the French Cemetery, east of Woolstock, Iowa.

Deslyn Arthur Schutt, son of Christian and Emma (Loux) Schutt, was born February 22, 1926, on the family farm NE of Woolstock. He attended #6 and #8 country school through the 8th grade. He graduated from Woolsock high school in 1945, where he played basketball and participated in band and chorus. Deslyn served in the United States Army from 1945 – 1946. After discharge, he returned to Iowa to farm with his brothers. He worked various jobs in Webster City, before going on to college. Deslyn received a Business Administration degree and a minor in English and Education in 1958 from Valparaiso. He taught in the Los Angeles City School District and earned his master’s degree from Colorado State College. Deslyn took an education sabbatical and attended Berkley School of Nursing and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. He worked for 14 years at the San Peninsula Hospital.

After retiring and moving back to Iowa, he remained active in church, helped with the Teddy Bear Reunions from 1990-2010 and volunteered at the Heartland Museum.

He is survived by his nephews, Raymond (Karen) Schutt of Eagle Grove, Charles (Sue) Potter of Leroy, MN, Keith (Patsy) Brock of Webster City, Denny Schutt of Des Moines,; nieces, Phyllis Eide of Woolstock, Mary (Bobby) Gregory from Hampton, Marlo (Michael) Bogh of Huron, SD, Connie Brock (Mark Anderson) of Woolstock, Martha Schutt of Des Moines; Alice Brock of Sioux Falls, SD , Kathy Schutt of Des Moines, Janet Schutt of Clive, Diane Schutt of Clarion, and many extended family members.

Deslyn was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Herbert & Irene Schutt, Charles & Edna Schutt, Emma & Alton Potter, George Schutt, Celestin “Buster” & Darlene “Dolly” Schutt, Ilo & Marilyn Schutt, Eldred “Tiny” & Beverly Schutt, Martin & Janis Schutt and Hazel & Roger Brock; nieces, Suzanne Schutt and Edna Rigby ; nephews, Larry Brock, Bob Schutt, Steve Schutt, Ronnie Potter, Jerry Schutt, Yale Schutt, and Paul Schutt; and Lillian Schutt.

He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Mason City. Deslyn enjoyed bowling, making Pysanky and ornaments from old neck ties, reading his Bible and playing cards.
