Debra Flowers

Debra Flowers, 69, of Stratford formerly of Des Moines passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at her daughter’s home in Stratford. No services will be taking place at this time. A private family burial will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel at a later time, where Debra will be buried with her husband. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted in caring for Debra and her family.

Debra Mae McCallum, daughter of Duane and Jacquelyn (Gilfert) McCallum, was born February 6, 1957 in Sioux City. She graduated from East High School in Sioux City. On March 17, 2000, Debra was united in marriage to Michiel Lee Flowers in Des Moines. Prior to her retirement, she worked for many years as a receptionist for a cardiology office in Des Moines. Debra was known as everyone's "mama". She was constantly hauling her kids and their friends all over the Midwest in support of their ambitions and dreams. Debra's smile and laughing spells were notoriously unhinged and entirely infectious. She enjoyed making G-rated curses when she ran out of well worn catchphrases. Debra was also known for her instant ability to burst into tears at any given time, for any occasion. No matter how long you would be apart, she always found a way to cry at goodbyes.

Debra always enjoyed listening to country music. She was one of Travis Tritt's biggest fan club members. She enjoyed baking, gardening, anything that involved horses, reading, and traveling – especially to Ireland with her mother. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan, especially when it came to watching them in their many activities. Debra loved all the time spent with the grandchildren and grand-puppies.

She is survived by her father, Duane (Jeanne) McCallum of Sioux City; her children, Jamey Schrick (Mary Harris) of Burbank, California, Jason Schrick of Des Moines, Jenna (Kyle) Mathes of Stratford; step-children, Marcie (Tony) Wallace, Michele Jobe, Denise Flowers all of Des Moines; grandchildren, Alexis Mathes, Wade Mathes, Colter Mathes, Anthony Wallace, Leah Wallace, Andrew (Valorie) Hawthorn, Mike (Jenny) Hawthorn, Robert (Karaline) Eckhoff; sister, Jan (Tommy) Schwartz of Sioux City; brother, Scott (Teri) McCallum of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

Debra was preceded in death by her husband, Michiel in 2021 and her mother, Jacquelyn Gilfert.
