Dean Sylvester Olson, son of Albert and Jessie Davis Olson, was born June 10, 1928 at Hayfield, Iowa. He graduated from Algona high school in 1946 then attended Gustavus Adolphus College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his discharge, he attended Drake University College of Pharmacy graduating in 1952. On August 15, 1948, he married Lucy Etta Light at Ridgecrest, CA. He was employed as a pharmacist with Ford Hopkins Pharmacies at Fort Dodge, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City prior to purchasing Dick Drug at Webster City in 1961. He owned and operated Olson Pharmacy for 31 years before retiring in 1992. After retirement, they enjoyed their winters at Holiday Island, AR. Dean is survived by his wife, Lucy; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Marcia Olson of LaPorte City; daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and Robert Motto of Bettendorf, Cheryl and Paul Olson-Sklar of Shorewood, WI, Linda and Thomas Donner of Ft. Dodge, Donna and Randell Roberts of Ackley; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Dean is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Myrlte Alke and Arlene Lindhorst; brothers, Irvin Olson and Sonny Olson and a granddaughter, Sara Motto. He was a member of the Sons of Norway, Marine Corps League and Kiwanis.
