Clarice Markwardt, 87, of Webster City, died Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Care Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ, with Pastor Ray Artrip officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and prior to the service on Saturday. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Clarice Alta Cole, daughter of John and Hannah Pierson Cole, was born May 20, 1923 on a farm near Northwood. She attended schools in Worth and Hamilton counties. She graduated from Lincoln High at Webster City in 1941. On November 2, 1941, she married Bernice Ray "Red" Markwardt at Webster City. Employment through the years included Hahne Printing, Webster City; Burbank Telephone Exchange, Burbank, CA; Fastenow Drug, Webster City; Webster City high school and Hamilton County Veteran Affairs and Social Services, Webster City. Mr. Markwardt died November 5, 1997. She is survived by daughters, Pat (Don) Nokes of Webster City; Bonnie (Dan) McCausland of Waunakee, WI; sons, Steve (Clareen) Markwardt and Ken (Chris) Markwardt, all of Webster City; daughter-in-law, Teresa Markwardt of Milford; sister-in-law, Eleanor Ford of Pueblo, CO; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters and many other special relatives in her life. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Merle Lee in 2006; six sisters and two brothers and a brother-in-law. Clarice was a member of the Church of Christ, American Legion Auxiliary, was a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and worked in Circles and Women's Fellowship while able. Her last wish for family and friends is that they use II Timothy 2:15 as their guide in life and to honor God, His son, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Church of Christ or Hamilton County Relay for Life, in care of Pat Nokes or Hospice.
