Brian Bergman

Brian Edward Bergman, 70, Stratford, died Saturday, May 23, 2026, at his home.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00–3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Stratford Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Private family burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is assisting the family.

Brian was born April 23, 1956, in Ames to Howard and Doris (Swanson) Bergman. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1974 and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Upper Iowa University, majoring in Political Science with a minor in History in 1978.

He married Carol A. Schmidt on May 1, 1982, in Boone. Brian worked as a plumber with Bergman Plumbing, eventually taking over the family business, and later worked at Ames Laboratory until retiring in 2018.

He was a member of Stratford Lutheran Church and a past member of Stratford Fire and Rescue, Stratford Telephone Company, Stratford City Council, and the Stratford Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Stratford; daughter, Nicole Bergman of Boone; and brothers-in-law: Evan Young, Nevada; Kenneth (Ann) Schmidt, Ames; and Bernie (Kim) Schmidt, Boone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kristie Young; sister-in-law, Jan (Keith) Gardner; and brother-in-law, Jim Schmidt.
