Berneta Balsley, 82, of Webster City, died Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Van Diest Medical Center. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14th at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.
Berneta Lois Mogensen, daughter of Gottlieb and Mabel Erickson Mogensen, was born August 26, 1936, in Webster City. She graduated from Stanhope high school in 1954 and Iowa State University in 1958. She taught homemaking for one year and met her husband, Roger, at Marion. They were married August 29, 1959 in Webster City. They made their home in Webster City since 1960. Berneta owned a Welcoming service for 28 years and worked part-time as a correspondent for The Messenger in Fort Dodge from 1981 to 2007.
She is survived by her children, Darren (Lisa) Balsley of Fort Dodge, Grant Balsley of Stanhope; four grandchildren, Arrin (Cody) Lura, Alexis (Cory) Worden, Danielle (Devin) Ault and Andrea Ault; five great-grandchildren, Hilary, Archer, Gannon, Fletcher and Kinnick; sister, Corey Forstrom of Rockford, IL; and brother, Jon (Terry) Mogensen of Manson.
Berneta was preceded in death by her husband, Roger in 2014; sister, Susan Akerman; brother, Leo Mogensen; and brother-in-law, James Forstrom.
She was active in the League of Women Voters of Hamilton County, Webster City Women’s Club, Asbury United Methodist Women, Webster City Traffic Committee, and Iowa Addison’s Disease Support Group. Berneta enjoyed watching the birds, sewing, reading and taking care of her house plants.
Memorials may be left to the Webster City Women’s Club, and Van Diest Medical Center Foundation.
