Barbara Scott

Barbara Scott, 72, of Stratford, died Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Stratford Lutheran Church, with Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Barbara Ann Thompson, daughter of Berwin and Alice Nemechek Thompson, was born July 18, 1943 at Webster City. She attended Stratford Schools. On August 1, 1959, she married Loren William Scott at the Stratford Lutheran Church. The couple resided at Stratford. While raising five children, she worked at the Old Home Café, Stratford Care Center and Stratford Schools. Barbara is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Duanna and Ryan Thompson of Ogden; Lisa Bergman of Boone; Michele and Doug Hanson of Urbandale; Amy and Terry Shaw of Colo; son, Colin Scott of Stratford; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; mother, Alice Spitler of Boone; sisters, Bonnie and David DeCoursey of Des Moines, Cheryl and Walt Mills of Des Moines, Linda and Alan Carlson of Waukee, Lora and Steven Phillips of Roland; sister-in-law, Barbara Thompson of Ankeny; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Berwin; husband, Loren; two great-grandsons, Gabriel Loren Ehler, Caleb Jeffrey Ehler; brother, Larry Thompson. She was a member of Stratford Lutheran Church. Barbara was active in her church and many community activities including Meals on Wheels. She was also a First Responder for the Stratford Ambulance.
