Barbara Schweppe

Barbara Schweppe, 91, of Jewell died on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Mary Greeley Medical Center after spending the week with her family by her bedside. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Burial will follow at Graceland Center. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at the funeral home.

Barbara Jean Haukoos, daughter of Lester and Oleva (Jacobson) Haukoos, was born December 8, 1934 in Stanhope. She attended country school a mile from her rural home, graduated from Stanhope High School in 1952, and went on to attend beauty school. On September 6, 1953, Barbara was united in marriage to Ronald M. Schweppe at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church west of Jewell. Over the years she worked as a beautician, a mother, and farmwife. She was proud to have worked for 20 years as a nurse’s aide for Bethany Manor. She was active in her church, enjoyed sewing, reading, knitting hats for the new babies at the hospital, and was a South Hamilton pen pal for many years. However, her favorite role was that of mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. The only time she ever showed a selfish side is when she would insist on “baby hogging” every baby with whom she came into contact. Barbara was an avid fan of every activity her children enjoyed and instilled a deep sense of confidence and service in each of them. She became a full-time supporter of her grandchildren, attending basketball games and events around the Midwest to cheer them on. Barbara volunteered at every opportunity and gave more than was ever requested.

She is survived by her son, Bradley (Ellen) Schweppe of Reinbeck; daughter, Pam (Don) Stangeland of Fontanelle; grandchildren, Jordan (Nicholle), Taylor, Savana (Brady Berg), Max, Alex, Sophia; greatgrandchildren, Harper, Hoyt, Beau and Cal; and sister, Mary (George) Reinhart of Ossian.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; son, Michael Schweppe; a daughter in infancy; her parents; sisters, Betty Wrage, Lila Kalvik and brother, Harris Haukoos.
