Barbara Halverson, 83, of Webster City, died Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Israel Family Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 4th at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center Thursday with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Barbara Jean Crouse was born June 5, 1927 to Lloyd and Eda (Schofield) Crouse in Ferguson, IA. She graduated from Alden High School and attended nursing school in Des Moines before moving to Webster City. She was united in marriage to Arthur (Bud) Halverson, Jr. on November 20, 1949. They owned and operated Halverson's Shoes in Webster City for 40 years. During her life she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, playing cards, and serving her church and community. Barbara was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. There she was active in Lydia Circle and served on the ecumenical human needs committee. She also served two terms as LCW Board President as well as Cluster President. Barbara was a member of Chapter NR PEO. She served on the hospital board for Hamilton County Hospital for 24 years and was a longtime board member for Meals on Wheels. Barbara is survived by children: Kim Halverson Untiet of West Des Moines, John (Jocelyn) Halverson of Bothell, Washington, David Halverson of Prague, Czech Republic and Mary Halverson of Ankeny, eight grandchildren: Christopher Untiet of Torrance, CA, Nathaniel (Christina) Halverson of Odenton, MD, Sarah Halverson of Seattle, WA, Matthew Halverson, Caleb (Libby) Halverson all of Moscow, ID, Grace Halverson of Bothell, WA, Ashley Bordwell and Benjamin Bordwell of Ankeny. Sisters-in-law: Betty Crouse of Fort Atkinson, WI and Iris Eichman of San Diego CA, nieces, nephews, son-in-law Larry Untiet of Spencer, and many friends. Mrs. Halverson was preceded in death by her husband in 2005, parents, brother, Ramon Crouse, and nephew Anthony Crouse.
