Alberna Assing, 96, of Webster City died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Southfield Wellness Community. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Simonson officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and at the church after 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Alberna Sophia Rogge, daughter of Albertus and Geska Tjaden Rogge, was born November 7, 1914 on a farm near Gilmore City. She received her education in that area. On June 24, 1937, she married Ernest Gustava Herman Assing at Elmore, MN. The couple farmed for ten years, then moved to Webster City in 1949. She had been self employed in health care, worked at Morton Frozen Foods for 5 years and worked in Dunn's Bakery for 16 years. Mr. Assing died September 18, 1980. Alberna had resided at Southfield Wellness Community since 2004. Mrs. Assing is survived by son, Dale of Cassville, MO; daughter, JoAnne Fogg of Hotchkiss, CO; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Duane Assing; daughters, Marcella Assing and Judy Kloppenborg; grandson, Jerid Kunz; sisters, Anna Rohlfs, Hazel Onnen and Hulda Martens.
