Obituary for Virginia Tabor

Virginia Tabor, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Tuesday, July 19th. Virginia was born on November 5th, 1931, in the small town of Pilot Mound, Iowa to parents Clark Forney and Minnie Orr, and older brother Robert. Her childhood was an idyllic one filled with love and surrounded by growing things on her parents' truck farm. As she herself grew older, she attended the high school in Pilot Mound and there, among a class of 12, she met Kenneth Tabor. Virginia and Kenneth married on the snowy Christmas morning of 1951 in her parents' living room after he drove through the night from his basic training station in South Carolina. They were happily married for 67 years and had two children together--a son, John Tabor, born in 1958, and a daughter, Jayne Tabor-Moline, born in 1961. Their family continued to grow with the addition of a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Tabor, and a son-in-law Scott Moline, as well as two grandchildren: Margaret and Daniel Moline.

She spent her adult life devoting herself to her family and her community. While her husband was completing his education, Virginia worked various jobs to support them both and was a constant pillar of love and encouragement. Once their children were born, she poured her efforts into their upbringing and creating a happy home. As her children grew older, Virginia turned to helping the other children of Webster City -- first as a secretary at Webster City Junior High, and then as a secretary for the Iowa State Extension Office where she aided young 4-H members for over 14 years.

Outside of her family, Virginia’s greatest source of happiness was music. As an avid vocalist and pianist, she volunteered her time and talents to every church she attended as an organist, accompanist, and vocal soloist. She helped instill a sense of joy to church services that is remembered by many. She also nurtured additional hobbies such as a keen interest in genealogy and local history, various fiber arts including crocheting and embroidery, and a fierce appreciation for the card game Bridge.

Virginia was an active member of the community and the social fabric of Webster City, creating friendships, and spreading music and joy to those around her. She is preceded in death by her husband, brother, and parents. Her memory is continued by her children John Tabor and Jayne Tabor-Moline, their spouses Jennifer Tabor and Scott Moline, her grandchildren Margaret and Daniel Moline, and her many friends, social club participants, and fellow members of her church congregation.
The family has entrusted Foster Funeral and Cremation with caring for Virginia. Private family graveside services will be held at the Pilot Mound Cemetery later this fall.
