Obituary for Violet G Carlson
Violet Carlson, 92, of Stratford died Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021 at South Marion United Methodist Church southeast of Stratford. Burial will follow in the South Marion Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Foster Funeral & Cremation Center in Webster City.
Violet Genevieve Sanders, the twelfth of thirteen children born to Glenn and Myrtle (Strong) Sanders, on March 17, 1929 at their home in Palo Alto County. She graduated from Mallard High School in 1948 and went on to attend Tobin Business College in Fort Dodge. On December 10, 1950 Violet was united in marriage to Dale Eugene Carlson in Plover, Iowa. The couple resided on the Carlson farm south of Stratford until 1984, when the couple moved to farm east of Vincent. Violet was an active farm wife and worked for Bornes in Ames. After Dale’s passing in 2009, Violet moved to Athens Woods in Stratford.
She is survived by her children, Steven (Janice) Carlson, Raymond (Brenda) Carlson all of Stratford, Sandra (Doug) Nelson of Melbourne, Sharon (Tony) Bergman of Stratford, Larry (Kris) Carlson of Vincent; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law, Donna Carlson of Stratford and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Dale in 2009; parents, Glenn and Myrtle; grandson, Ryan Carlson; siblings, Lucy, Earl, Maude, George, Glenn, Ruth, Ray, Paul, Robert, James, Jay, and Carl; brothers-in-law, Arnie Carlson, Oren Carlson and sister-in-law, Donita Carlson.
She was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church, serving on the UMW. She also enjoyed being active in the UMW in Vincent, New Beginnings. She enjoyed square dancing with the Stratford Strutters, sewing, crocheting and wintering in Arizona over the years.
