Obituary for Thurman E. Lappin

Thurman Lappin, 91, a life long resident of Webster City, died Friday, September 5, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Patrick Wiedemeier officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Thurman E. Lappin, son of Grover and Bessie Entriken Lappin, was born November 19, 1922 at the Hamilton County Hospital. He attended Webster City schools and graduated from Lincoln High in 1941.He was employed at the Perry Williams service station. On February 20, 1944, he married Dorothy O. Hilpipre at her parent's home in Williams. The couple farmed for all 70 years of their marriage, many of those on the family farm south of Webster City. Mr. Lappin is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Frank and Lois Lappin of Webster City; Roger Lappin of Santa Ana, CA; grandchildren, Monique and Bobby Deal of Dardanelle, AR; Michelle and Ryan Casady of Webster City; Bret and Amanda Lappin of Ankeny; great-grandchildren, Maddie, Josh and Katie Casady and Ella Lappin; many nieces and nephews. Thurman was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on July 27, 2014; his parents and step-mom Laura Lappin. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Farm Bureau, United Coop, and past member of the Webster City Moose Lodge. Thurman enjoyed working with his son, Frank and dog, Dolly on tractors and gas engines. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and farming. Thurman and Dorothy camped many years at the Iowa State Fair.
