Obituary for Sonya Lynn McBurney

Sonya Harms McBurney, 45 of Webster City died Monday, September 12, 2022 at Van Diest Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. A family burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home Saturday.
Sonya Lynn Harms, daughter of Russell and Joyce (Bloomquist) Harms, was born January 23, 1977, in Austin, Minnesota. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1995. Sonya received her medical lab tech degree from Iowa Central Community College and was currently pursuing a degree in Psychology from the University of Purdue. On June 24, 2000, Sonya was united in marriage to Michael L. McBurney in Clear Lake. She owned Essential Therapeutics massage business, rumored to be the best. While working at Subway she remembered all repeat customers sandwich orders and baked her love into cookies and Kringla as co-partner of Kringla Gals. Sonya was very creative and always thinking “outside of the box”. She currently was employed with Webster City Parks and Recreation as a lifeguard, aquacise instructor, swimming instructor and a coach to the Webster City Swim Team.
She is survived by her husband, Michael McBurney of Fort Dodge; son, Brayzin McBurney of Webster City; daughter, Avinleigh McBurney of Webster City; step-daughter, Destiny Taylor of Lake City; step-granddaughter, Kinnick Meyer; parents, Russ and Joyce Harms of Duncombe; brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Robin Harms of Duncombe; nephews, Brandon, Ethan and Carter Harms; nieces, Mykah and Ravyn Kennedy; mother-in-law, Doris McBurney of Fort Dodge; and cousin, Keith “Biff” Biggs of Webster City along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.
Sonya was preceded in death by maternal and paternal grandparents; father-in-law, Jim McBurney; cousins, Mindy Bruellman and Travis Weishaar.
Sonya enjoyed sewing, swimming, crafts, cooking, bowling, concerts, her flower garden but most importantly time spent with her children and family. From your great and loving instructor - Peace, Love, Thank You, and Shine On.
