Obituary

Shirley Haynes, 91, formerly of Webster City, died peacefully, Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Health Care Resort in Leawood, KS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Pastor Jeff Flagg officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.
Shirley Joan Dunham was born February 24, 1929 in Marshalltown, Iowa to the parents of Franklin and Joan Koch Dunham. After graduating high school in Marshalltown, she attended Iowa Methodist Nursing School. On September 5, 1954 she was united in marriage to Carroll Haynes. The couple moved to Webster City where Carroll opened his dental practice. In 2008, they moved to Leawood, KS to be close to their children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Erwood (Brent) and Kim Haynes (Tom Shaw) both of Leawood, KS; grandchildren, Michael Erwood (Graham), Jonathan Erwood, Thomas Erwood, Elizabeth Erwood; step-grandchildren, Jake Shaw, Tessa Hann (Chris) and Cara Shaw and two great-granddaughters, Sullivan and Lucy Erwood, sister-in-law, Barbara Humphrey and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Carroll; son, Bart Haynes; her parents, Franklin and Joan Dunham and brothers, Robert and Darrell Dunham.
In the 49 years Shirley and her husband, Carroll lived in Webster City, they were active members of Asbury United Methodist Church. Shirley volunteered in numerous community activities and organizations, such as Meals on Wheels, the County Home, Girls Scout camp nurse, crippled children’s clinic and local blood drives to name a few. She recently received her 50 year pin for her service and membership in P.E.O.
For all who knew Shirley, her infectious laugh and smile were undeniable. She persevered through tragedies by loving fiercely and always finding hope in people and humor in life. Her nickname the last ten years was the Energizer Bunny ; she just kept on surviving various medical set backs! She always had a smile and a kind word for all. She will be missed greatly by those who loved her, but her legacy will live endure.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Heart Association at heart.org or a charity of choice, if desired.

Dear Susan,Kim and families,
More then 50 years ago, Shirley welcomed me into her home and expanded her great love for her own family
to include me. Some how she knew I needed a little
extra kindness in my life and she was there for me. I am
grateful for all times we shared throughout the years
since then. My heart has a special place reserved just for Shirley where her compassion for others will live on.
I wish her all the blessings that heaven holds. Jill

Rest In Peace - Jill
