Roger E. Mourlam, Jr. 94, of Webster City, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Southfield Wellness Community. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Richard Laird officiating. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday and prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Roger Emile Mourlam, Jr., son of Roger and Margaret Jane Kahl Mourlam, was born September 17, 1916 on a farm in Cottonwood County, Minnesota. At the age of five, he moved with his parents to a farm east of Woolstock. He attended rural school and graduated from high school at Woolstock. Prior to W.W. II, he worked for the Eagle Grove Greenhouse. On July 19, 1942, he married Mary Margaret Hall at San Luis Obispo, CA. In April of 1942, he entered the U.S. Army serving in Alaska. Returning to the U.S. he served with the Army's Special Services Division. For his service he was awarded the Army Commendation Ribbon for service above and beyond the call of duty. Following his discharge as a master sergeant in 1945, he worked at Farmer's National Bank, Standard Oil Company and Naden Industries, retiring in 1981. He served many years on the Congregate Meals Board, was a Senior Advocate for Hamilton County's Elderbridge and served on the Governor's Senior Advisory Board. He was given special recognition by Gov. Branstad for his volunteer service. He served as a volunteer for RSVP, was a member of the American Legion Post # 191, past Noble Grand of the Elmo Lodge # 62 - I.O.O.F., a member of the Church of Christ serving in many capacities as Deacon, Elder, longtime teacher of the Loyal Men and Women Class and Sunday school superintendent. While he was superintendent the Sunday school experienced record attendance. He also served on the board of directors for Midwestern Christian Services at Peterson. Roger is survived by his wife; daughter, Mary Jeanne Mourlam of Newton; son, Roger Bruce (Suki) Mourlam of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Tiffany and David Mourlam of Dallas; brother, Alvin (Ritie) Mourlam of Breese, Il; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Mourlam Sampson. Memorials may be given to Midwestern Christian Services at Peterson, New Testament Church of Christ, RSVP or Congregate Meals.
