Obituary for Robert Long

Robert “Bob” Long, 93, of Webster City, died Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Van Diest Medical Center. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2022 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.
Robert Scott Long, son of Percy and Eileen (Ryan) Long, was born August 28, 1929 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He graduated from Lincoln High in Webster City. Bob served in the United States Navy on the USS New Jersey from Dec. 15, 1950 – Oct. 8, 1954. On July 28, 1956, Robert was united in marriage to Mary Jane Olthoff at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He worked as an independent insurance agent for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary; children, Elizabeth (Dave) Perin of Webster City, Patricia (Neil) Gibson of Richmond, IN, David (Christine) Long of Monroe, MI, Daniel (Kristen) Long of Mason City; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Carol) Long of Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathleen Mitchell; son-in-law, Dan Mitchell and brother, Douglas Long.
He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #191, and past member of the Elks Club. Bob was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing, fishing, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, but most importantly he loved time spent with his family.
