Obituary for Owen Angstrom

Owen Angstrom, 71, of Stratford died from complications of COVID-19 on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital in Des Moines. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City. Graveside Burial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday October 28, 2020 at South Marion Cemetery, south of Stratford.
Owen Beal Angstrom, son of LuVerne and Maralyn Beal Angstrom, was born April 2, 1949 in Boone, IA. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1967. Owen was united in marriage on May 24, 1975 to Carol Jean Kessler in Epiphany, SD. He began his career at the Stratford Co-Op and remained there for nearly 20 years. Owen then drove truck for Van Diest Supply and First Fleet before his retirement in 2018. Owen volunteered for many organizations including the 911 Board, Magwed Committee, and jokingly called himself the “Mayor of Rosstown” in Stratford. Owen served 44 years on the Stratford Fire and Rescue Department with 18 of those years as the Fire Chief. He loved spending time with his family and three grandchildren. You could find Owen operating his John Deere lawn tractor, fishing with Carol, sharing his homemade bloody marys, or enjoying time with friends drinking a Black Velvet toasted caramel.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol; daughter, Melissa Angstrom of Ames; son, Alan (Jillian) Angstrom of Fort Dodge; three grandchildren; siblings, Stonna (Paul) Nicholas, Alinda (Robert) Lager, Janell (Denny) Garvey, Craig (Pat) Angstrom, Ivan (Cindy) Angstrom, and Kevin (Cherie) Angstrom along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Owen is preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be left in Owen’s memory to his family.
