Obituary for Maxine Fortune

LoRena Maxine Fortune, 86, passed away January 13, 2023, in Webster City, Iowa. Per her wishes, no services are scheduled. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with serving her family.

Maxine Rhoad was born December 24, 1936, to Burnis and Fern (Merritt) Rhoad in Maysville, Missouri. She was the second of seven children and lived in northern Missouri before her family moved to north central Iowa. She married DaWayne Fortune on April 27, 1952, at Homer Methodist Church in Hamilton County.

She contributed greatly to the success of her family's farm through her countless hours of hard work, both in the fields and caring for the farm animals. She liked to garden,sew and bake, and her family especially enjoyed her delicious cinnamon rolls. Maxine also liked to travel with her husband across the U.S. and was fond of the Rocky Mountain states. She collected commemorative plates from many of the states she visited. Maxine also collected snowmen figurines and was a fan of Elvis Presley.

Maxine is survived by her children Rita Sogard (Brian), Wanda Olson and Wade Fortune (Tricia); siblings Mildred Bass, Martha Totten, Lucille Loeffler (Gene) and Ray Rhoad (Caroline); six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, DaWayne Fortune; siblings, Clyde Rhoad and Betty Rhoad; grandson, Clint Olson and brother-in-law, Derl Totten.

Maxine treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family.
