Obituary for Mary Louise Jacobson

Mary Louise Jacobson (nee Powers), age 92 of Lenexa, KS, died peacefully in her home Sunday, January 9, 2022. A native of Fort Dodge, IA, and raising her family in Omaha, NE, Mary was a resident of Lenexa. Visitation at 10:00am, followed by 11:00am funeral Mass on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Good Shepherd Catholic Parish, 12800 W 75th St, Shawnee, KS 66216. Burial at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City, IA, 11:00am Saturday, February 26, 2022, followed by lunch (all are welcome) at the Powers family farm near Duncombe, IA. Family may be contacted via Foster Funeral Home in Webster City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation or your favorite charity.

She is survived by children, Kristina Frank (Daniel), Mary Pat Kruse (Kurt), and Paul Jacobson (Angie), grandchildren, Mary, Genevieve, Maura, John, Jude, and Michael Frank, Analise and Katerina Kruse, Tyler Jacobson and Justin Myer, and two great grandchildren, Chloe and Addison Jacobson. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin Jacobson, parents Paul and Genevieve Powers, and brother John Powers.

An educator throughout life, Mary lived vibrantly with experiences ranging from riding a horse to teach in a one-room school house to traveling internationally to teach drug abuse prevention. Recently, residing at Westchester Village of Lenexa, Mary loved to play bridge, quilt, sew, and teach others to do the same. An avid reader, Mary kept current on politics, spirituality, church developments, social justice and the environment.

Mary was a matriarch to extended family and a beloved confidant and encourager to many. May her memory be a blessing.
