Obituary for Mary Ann Hammitt
Mary Ann (Schumacher) Hammitt of Webster City was born to Adrain and Hattie (Pringle) Schumacher on November 1, 1930 in Clarion, Iowa. She passed away peacefully on May 23rd at Van Diest Medical Center at the age of 90. Mary Ann was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City. A Mass of Christian burial will be held June 9, 2021, 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Webster City. Visitation will be held beginning at 9:00 a.m. before the service at the church. Graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery following the service. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Mary Ann was united in marriage to her first husband, Larry Bailey, on August 5, 1950. They lived in Webster City most of their married life, raising their 3 sons and enjoying their many grandchildren. Following the death of Mary Ann’s first husband in 1987, she was united in marriage to Walter Hammitt on November 12, 1988. They were married for 32 years enjoying family and many travel adventures. Walter passed away in November 2020. Over the years, Mary Ann worked at the Freeman Journal, Williams Drug and for 30 plus years at the Webster City Medical Clinic, from where she retired.
Left to cherish her memory are 3 sons, all of Webster City: Doug (Nancy) Bailey, Jim (Cindy) Bailey and Kent (Milissa) Bailey. Stepchildren; Crystal (Tony) Hottman of Plainfield, Ind., Randy (Karen) Hammitt of Jesup, and Lisa Hammitt of Webster City; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Ketch of Indianola; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, brother, Bill Schumacher, brother-in -law, Bill Ketch, and daughter-in-law, Sandi Markley.
