Obituary for Mark Vance

Mark Talmadge Vance passed away following a brief illness on June 15, 2021 at Unity Point Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Mark was born September 15, 1946 at the Hamilton County Hospital to William and Joyce Vance. He graduated with the WCHS Class of 1965 and lived all of his life in Webster City.

Mark was a member of the First Congregational UCC Church in Webster City. He was a dedicated fan of WCHS sports and enjoyed attending many football, basketball, baseball, volleyball and softball games over the years. While he followed all levels of sporting teams, he was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, enjoying their great success at the expense of his siblings’ teams as they were growing up. In later years, he truly enjoyed opportunities to socialize with fellow classmates from the Class of 1965.

In addition to his parents, Mark was predeceased by his brother, Craig, who passed away on June 6, 2021. He is survived by his sisters, Peggy (Dean) Baker of Scottsdale, AZ, and Caroline (Tom) Taylor of Nevada, MO. Also surviving are nephews Casey Baker of Santan Valley, AZ, and Brandon Taylor of Pittsburgh, PA, and nieces Angela Roberson of Scottsdale, AZ and Brooke Taylor of St. Louis, MO. Mark enjoyed staying in touch with numerous cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as his aunt, Beth Christiansen of Portland, OR.

A graveside service for Mark will be held at Graceland Cemetery along with that of his brother, Craig, at 10am on Saturday, July 10, 2021 with Pastor Craig Blaufuss officiating. Foster Funeral & Cremation Center is entrusted with the services. Visitation will take place on Friday, July 9 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the funeral home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Webster City Community Schools to benefit the softball and baseball programs at 820 Des Moines St., Webster City, IA 50595, or, First Congregational UCC Church at 1000 Willson Ave., Webster City, IA 50595.
