Obituary for Marie Anna Christian (Schaumburg)

Marie Christian, 96, of Webster City, died Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Mark Eichler officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Marie Anna Schaumburg, daughter of William and Louise (Loux) Schaumburg, was born March 15, 1923, at the family home in rural Clarion. She attended Dayton #6 rural school in Wright County and graduated from Clarion high school. She obtained a teaching certificate and was a rural school teacher. On January 10, 1943 she married Morris “Hap” Christian at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Woolstock. Marie was the owner of M&M Tropical Fishland, and a cake decorator out of her home. She also was employed at Coast to Coast and later with Hamilton County Public Hospital in admitting.
She is survived by her children; Margie Eller of Webster City, Marty (Shelley) Christian of Webster City, and Mark (Theresa) Christian of Fort Dodge; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, LeRoy (Barbara) Schaumburg of Clarion; sister, Georgene Breiner of Webster City; sister-in-law, Myrtle Schaumburg of Mallard; and many extended family.

In addition to her husband, Morris “Hap” in 1984, she was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Isobel Christian; great-great-granddaughter, Aubriana Jo Christian; brothers, Joseph, Chester and Richard Schaumburg and son-in-law, Fredric Eller.

Marie was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City and previous member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Woolstock. She was a 4H leader for several years, church treasurer for St. Peter’s Lutheran along with assisting with Ladies Aid and the head of the quilt makers.
