Obituary for Lonnie Lewellyn Hippen

Lonnie L. Hippen, 58, of Webster City was called home on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, May 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Revs. Mike Kroona and Kari Foss, officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family. Lonnie Lewellyn Hippen, son of Lewellyn and Margaret (Wilhelm) Hippen, was born November 11, 1955 in Fort Dodge. Lonnie graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1974. He attended Iowa Central Community College and the University of Northern Iowa, obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Business. On July 22, 1978 he married Cheryl McCurry, to this union a daughter was born. The couple later divorced. He worked as a Vice-President for banks in Kansas and West Bend. On September 22, 1985 he was united in marriage to Jerilyn Byerly in Humboldt. The couple resided in Fort Dodge and moved to Webster City in 1999. He later started his own business, Hippen Appraisal. Lonnie enjoyed spending time with his family and his cats. He always considered his children his greatest accomplishments in life. Lonnie was a fighter and overcame many obstacles and health issues. He enjoyed sports, gardening and being outdoors. Lonnie was a great dad, always instilling the values of hard work, respect and a positive attitude. He was a man of great faith and will be remembered as a strong person who believed everything happens for a reason. Lonnie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Lonnie is survived by his wife, Jerilyn; children, Emily Hippen of Denver, CO; Cole Hippen (Frances Radilla) of Ames; Courtney, Christian, Caroline and Collin Hippen all of Webster City; mother, Margaret Hippen of Ames; sisters, Julie (Randy) Junkman of Fort Dodge; Rhonda (Mike) Coborn of Mason City; Shelley Hippen of Eden Praire, MN; brother, Scott Hippen of Ames; mother-in-law, Viola Byerly of Cherokee; brothers-in-law, Dean (Barb) Rice of Paulina; Bryan (Karolyn Edwards) Byerly of Cherokee; and several nieces and nephews.
