Obituary for Larry W Hummel

Larry Hummel, 82, of Webster City passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Memorial services will be held 3:00 pm Monday, September 19, 2022 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City. Visitation will follow the service from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the church social hall. The family will be having a private burial at Graceland Cemetery with Military Honors. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Larry Walter Hummel, the eldest son of Walter and Gertie (Altman) Hummel, was born in Jackson, Minnesota on January 1, 1940. He attended Jackson Schools graduating with the class of 1958. Larry was employed by Hummel Plumbing & Heating until enlisting in the United States Army in 1961. He was honorably discharged in 1964 and returned to Jackson, Minnesota to continue his employment with Hummel Plumbing & Heating. On February 14, 1965, Larry was married to Lois Ludvigson at Jackson, Minnesota. To this union two children were born, Brent and Renee. The couple moved to Webster City, Iowa in 1966 after accepting employment with People’s Natural Gas. In 1969, Larry went to work for Farmland Industries Nitrogen Plant in Duncombe, Iowa, retiring after 31 years in 2000. He was an avid reader. Larry enjoyed camping, fishing, his canoe and sailboat, maintaining his yard as health permitted and his coffee time at Hy-Vee. His grandchildren were very special to him, and he enjoyed attending their sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lois of Webster City; children, Brent Hummel of Webster City and Renee (Mark) Kaufman of Gilmore City; grandchildren, Zachery Turner, Derek Turner, Marissa Kaufman, Madeline Kaufman; great-grandson, Myles Turner; siblings, Janet (Dave) Corbo of New Richmond, Wisconsin, Nancy (Les) Nelson of Belvidere, Illinois, James (Deb) Hummel of Windom, Minnesota, Jeffrey (Diane) Hummel of Mason City, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
