Obituary for Phyllis McKinney

Phyllis McKinney, 94, of Webster City, died Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Van Diest Medical Center. Visitation will be Monday, May 6, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Kathryn Phyllis Buckles, daughter of Aaron and Maude Bateman Buckles, was born July 6, 1924, in Webster City. She graduated from Lincoln High. Phyllis married Marvin Eugene McKinney on July 20, 1944 in Des Moines. She was employed by Rexall Drug, Modern Cleaners, Consolidated Freight and Storage, Ayers Transport Co, Franklin Manufacturing and Van Diest Supply. Her work ethic was “all business always” and worked during the busy seasons at Van Diest until she was almost 80. Her grandchildren were the love of her life second only to her love of animals. She wrote a story of her life in 8th grade and her plans for the future were to get a job and make some money so she could have a cat farm. I would say she fulfilled her plan as she raised hundreds of cats in her lifetime. Her biggest regret in leaving her home was having to leave her cats behind.
She is survived by her children, Joel (Mary) McKinney and Tim (Carol) McKinney, both of Webster City; three grandchildren, Deanna, Matthew, and Marty; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Leah McKinney, brothers, Dean Buckles, Dick Buckles, and sister, Arlene Simpson.
