Obituary for Harlen L Willis

Harlen Willis, 88, of Ackworth formerly of Webster City, died Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2022 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.
Harlen Lorenzo Willis, son of Charley and Treva (Kelly) Willis, was born April 26, 1934 at home near Moorhead in Harrison County. He attended country schools through the 8th grade. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. While serving in Iceland he earned his GED. He was united in marriage to Nettie “Carol” Tague on April 17, 1955. The couple moved to Webster City in 1963 where Harlen was employed with Seneca Foundry for 38 years. After retirement, Harlen enjoyed square dancing with Jerry.
He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Mary “Jerry” Hayes of Ackworth; sons, Gerald (Linda) Hayes of Indianola, Randy (Kelly) Hayes of Ackworth; daughter, Mary Thomas of Ackworth; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Alyce Tucker of Tuttle, OK, Althea Penrose of Logan, Karolyn Vandemark of Woodbine; brother, Henry (Carol) Willis of Clute, TX and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Harlen was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents, Charley and Treva; siblings, Treva, Harold, Howard, Harvey; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Penrose, Ralph Tucker and Larry Vandemark.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Harlen’s memory to Care Initiatives Hospice.
