Obituary for Hans Nelson

Hans Nelson, 93, of Webster City, IA died Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeff Flagg, officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery east of Thor, which was formally on the land that he was born and raised. Foster Funeral & Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Hans Christian Nelson, son of Carl and Fredrikke Peterson Nelson, was born December 21, 1926 on the family farm near Thor. He was educated in area rural schools. He served in the United States Army during WW II. Hans was united in marriage to Carol Jane Larson on Jan 5, 1958 in Omaha, Nebraska. They farmed together with his brother, Harry and his wife, Irene as Nelson Brothers for over sixty years.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of 61 years; children, Jeff (Jerita) Nelson of Webster City, Barb (Ian) Campbell of Punta Gorda, FL, and Lisa (Curt) Miller of Webster City; grandchildren, Ashley (Rob) Larson, Brent (Julia) Nelson, Lydia (Ethan) Cummings, Caleb (fiancé, Sarah Pudenz) Miller; great-grandchildren, Reed and Aloise Larson and Baker Cummings; brother, Clarence “Shorty” (Carole) Nelson of Lake Havasu City, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Hans is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Marvin, Elmer, Harry and Jens and his sisters, Lela, Alice and Esther Johnson.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had served on the church board. Hans was also a member of the American Legion Post #191, Morning Kiwanis, Blairsburg Lions, Hamilton County Beef and Pork Producers, and the Webster City Country Club. Hans enjoyed winter months in Orange Beach, AL, golfing, tending to his yard and spending time with his family, who made him very proud. A highlight of his life was the recognition of his family’s Century Farm in Thor.
