Obituary for Elizabeth C Patterson

Elizabeth “Betty” Patterson, 96, of Webster City passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Van Diest Medical Center. Visitation will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 16th at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Betty’s daughters invite family and friends to share a meal in her honor following the Mass. There will be a private family burial at Calvary Cemetery. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.

Elizabeth Christine Ermels, daughter of Carl and Suzanne (Mariga) Ermels was born April 4, 1925 in Webster City. Betty graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943. During her high school years Betty participated in church choir and was a soloist for weddings and funerals.

Betty married Jack P. Patterson in June of 1945 and they lived many years in Webster City where she worked for many years as a florist before moving to Costa Mesa, California. Betty worked at Sears in Sana Ana, California before retiring in 1988. Betty soon returned to Stanhope and was active at St. Thomas Church by serving as part of the funeral committee and as a eucharistic minister. She has resided for the last several years at Southfield Wellness Community.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Pam (Howard) Thomas of Gladbrook, Pat Cummings of Muncie Indiana, Cheri (Jim) Norris of Des Moines, Robyn Krienert of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Lee of Costa Mesa, California, Martha Hill of Stanhope; brother, Bernard Ermels of Webster City and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Ashley and Kayla Cummings; brothers-in-law, Robert Lee, Richard Hill and sister-in-law Marian Ermels.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Thomas Catholic Church parochial school.
