Obituary for Elaine Olson
Elaine Olson, 90, of Eagle Grove died Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Rotary Ann Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2021 at Samuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Stone officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Elaine Margie Chentland, daughter of Martin and Myrtle Skogebo Chentland, was born September 4, 1930 in Hubbard. She graduated from Radcliffe Schools. Following graduation, she worked in the ISU printing office. On February 7, 1959, Elaine was united in marriage to Alvin J. Olson at the Zion Lutheran Church in Garden City. The couple farmed south of Clarion and then in the Eagle Grove area. Later, they purchased a home in Eagle Grove where they spent their retirement years.
Elaine's family was important to her. She was proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she enjoyed hosting family gatherings during the holiday seasons.
Elaine rarely missed any available game of BINGO, and she looked forward to breakfast with her friends at Family Table every week. She and Alvin enjoyed several fun bus trips after they retired from farming.
She is survived by her children, Chuck (Leann) Olson of Hallsville, MO, Barbara (Duane) Petty of Gladbrook, IA, Lori (Jim) Eldridge of Terril, IA, Rodney (Laura) Olson of Eagle Grove, IA; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren with another arriving later this year; four step great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pam (Paul) Hinderaker of Ames, IA.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 2009; son, Steve Olson; her parents; brother, Darrel Chentland and sister, Barbara Chentland in infancy.
She was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church where she was involved in Ladies Aide, church counsel and taught Sunday School.
