Obituary for Dorothy Mae Meyer

Dorothy M. Meyer, 91, of Boone, formerly of Wellsburg, died Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. Dorothy Mae Meyer, daughter of Claus and Reka Arends Haren, was born November 4, 1923 at Grundy Center. Dorothy graduated from Grundy Center High School and the UNI teachers college. On July 3, 1945, she was united in marriage to John H. Meyer at Waterloo. Dorothy taught country school by Grundy Center, and farmed with her husband south of Wellsburg. She enjoyed wintering in Arizona, quilting and bowling. She was a member of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her children, Darla Connell of Clear Lake; J. Paul (Cindy) Meyer of Grand Island, NE, Jerilyn (Dean) Fuller of Cambridge, Laurie (Carl) Long of Luther, and Beth (Denny) Brady of Eagle Grove; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1989; her parents; brothers, Melvin, Carroll and Irwin Haren; and sister, Muriel McMartin.
