Obituary for Arend Jansen
Arend Jansen, 95, of Kamrar, died on Monday March 22, 2021 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday April 1, 2021 at Community Church of Kamrar with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the church. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Arend Jansen, son of Herman and Lena (Greenfield) Jansen, was born on June 26, 1925 in Lakota. In 1926, the family moved to the Kamrar area where Arend graduated in 1942 from Kamrar High School. In 1945 he joined the Army and served as an Intercept Operator where he intercepted and identified Morse code messages. On September 22,1949 he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Claude in Lakota. The couple started farming in 1950, two miles north of Kamrar. The couple wintered in Arizona for 22 years.
He is survived by brothers, Elton (Pat) Jansen of Mesa, AZ, Jimmie Jansen of Webster City; step-daughter-in-law, Colleen Claude of Jewell; three step-grandchildren, Carlene (Bruce) Block, Joe Holland, Cathy (Todd) Seifken; four step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Arend was proceeded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; brother, Bernard Jansen; sisters, Joyce Hinderaker, Lena Jane Jansen, Anna Barkema; sister-in-law, Raejean Jansen; brother-in-laws, Delbert Claude, Richard Hinderaker, Paul Barkema; stepson, Gary Claude; as well as a special girlfriend, Marian Rockow
He was a charter member of the Kamrar Lions Club, a member of the American Legion Post 191 and the Community Church of Kamrar where he served as an elder and deacon. Arend was also township clerk of Independence Township for 30 years. He enjoyed playing golf, softball, bowling, and basketball.
