Obituary for Ardys "Ardy" Bettis

Ardys “Ardy” Bettis, 91, of Webster City, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Asbury United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Flagg officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

Ardys Amos Bettis, son of Eddie Elston and Maude Elizabeth Kelly Bettis, was born July 28, 1927, the youngest of four, at the family home in rural Wayne County, IA. He graduated from Clio Public High school. On a rainy, April 1, 1950 he married the love of his life, Erma Jean Kelly in Princeton, MO. The couple resided in Webster City all their lives.

He is survived by his daughter, Vicky Flaws and son-in-law, Steve of Urbandale; son, Gary Bettis and daughter-in-law, Karen of Webster City; daughter, Cynthia Bettis of Webster City; grandchildren, Andrea Moore, Wyndi Johnson, Jake Bettis, Jeana Bettis, Megan Kohler, Sam Bettis,Tom Flaws, Zachary Adams, 11 great-grandchildren and many extended family.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray Bettis, sisters, Floy Brown, Willa McGhee; grandchildren, Angela Cartwright and Joshua Adams.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Ardy worked for Franklin Manufacturing and Morton Frozen Foods while successfully starting his own family business, Bettis Appliance Sales and Service for over 58 years. He was a former member of the Moose Family Lodge, the “Wild Bunch” a dinner group and the afternoon Euchre card group at Kelly’s. He loved his Hawkeyes and going to watch his grandchildren participate in school activities and sporting events. Ardy loved his family and friends and a was a wonderful father to us all. He will be remembered for his wit and joy for life, and will be missed by all.
