Obituary for Antonio Cruz
Antonio “Tony” Cruz passed away February 11, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. A military graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Tony was born in Guadalajara, Mexico on September 21, 1966, to parents Luis and Consuelo (Miramontes) Cruz. He and his family eventually moved to California. He graduated from Mountain View High School in 1984 and then joined the United States Navy, serving from 1984-1993.
On December 19, 1985, Tony married Kathy Ann Robinson in Portsmouth, VA. This union was blessed with five children: Amanda, Antonio Jr., Andrew, Alexis, and Armando. Once Tony was honorably discharged from the Navy, he and his family resided in Virginia where he worked in the construction business. Tony and Kathy moved to Stratford, IA, to be closer to their daughter and grandson.
Tony’s many enjoyments in life were fishing, crabbing, breakdancing, playing on his computer, coaching soccer, and spending time in the park. He could always light up a room and made everyone around him happy. He enjoyed summertime BBQ’s and playing cards as well. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tony is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kathy Cruz of Stratford, IA; children: Amanda Cruz of IL, Antonio Cruz Jr. (Jessica) of VA, Andrew Cruz of FL, Alexis (Hunter) Bryan of IA, and Armando Cruz of VA; grandchildren: Mason, Justin, Jacob, Alaina, Evan, and Archer; parents Luis and Consuelo Cruz of CA, siblings: Luis Cruz, Manuel Cruz, Celia Cruz, Angelina Cruz, and Roberto Cruz all of CA; many other extended family members and friends.
