Obituary for Alveda Kent

Alveda Kent, age 83 of Stanhope, IA, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022, at Van Diest Hospital in Webster City, IA, after a short stay there. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Stanhope Parish in Stanhope, IA. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the church.
Alveda Hazel Widick was born on August 26, 1938, to parents Cecil and Ilene (Pratt) Widick at home on the farm in Hamilton County. She grew up and attended country school in Stanhope where she lived on a farm with her parents and siblings.
On July 25, 1955, Alveda married Gerald K. Kent at a small country church by her home surrounded by friends and family. She and Jerry met when she and her parents took eggs to town to sell at the grocery store where he worked. They were blessed with three children: Theresa, Deborah, and Rebecah.
They lived in the Webster City area where they raised their family, and Jerry worked as the City Clerk and Alveda worked as a cook at Elm Park School until deciding to stay home to raise their children.
Alveda was an amazing cook and baker who loved to entertain her friends and family. Everyone always looked forward to anything she made/served. She was an active member of Stanhope Parish and sang as a soloist there. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafting, singing, and canning produce from her garden every year.
Alveda will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her husband of sixty-six years, Jerry Kent of Stanhope, IA; children: deceased daughter, Theresa Draeger and Al of Webster City, IA, Deborah Haren Caruth (Douglas) of Alden, IA, and Rebecah Thompson (Larry) of Galveston, TX; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; many other extended family members and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Clinton Widick (Alice), Minnie Seiser (Gerald), DeWayne Widick (Virvil), and Robert Widick.
