Obituary for Alice Belle Fortune

Alice Fortune, 100, of Webster City, died Friday, May 22, 2015 at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. There will be no funeral service. Alice Belle Stanger, was born February 14, 1915 in Oelwein to Italian immigrants. Her mother died shortly after her birth and she was adopted by a wonderful couple, John and Elizabeth Dingman Stanger. She graduated from Lincoln High. She married Glenn Fortune on October 29, 1932 in Webster City. She worked at McMurray Hatchery for 45 years and also clerked at several retail stores. Alice is survived by her sons, Leonard (Sharon) Fortune of North Bend, OR, Jim (Mary) Fortune of Webster City; grandchildren, Beth Fortune-Sylvester of North Bend, OR, David Fortune of North Bend, OR, Debbie Fortune-Nix of Palmer, AK, Heather (Jason) Fortune-Vestweber of Cedar Rapids, Jamie Fortune of Webster City; step-grandson, Peter Odegaard of New Orleans, LA; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nephew, Gene Fortune of Grand Rapids, MI. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, adopted brother, John Stanger and a daughter in infancy. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. Alice loved animals and fed every stray in the neighborhood. Per her request, in lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Almost Home Humane Society of North Central Iowa.
