Obituary
Pamela Patterson, 66, of Blairsburg died Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Van Diest Medical Center due to complications from an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Dave Simonson officiating.
Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Foster Chapel.
Pamela Mae Patterson, daughter of Bill and Eunice DeMoss Patterson, was born December 27, 1946 at Albia. Her family moved to a farm near Blairsburg in 1949. She received her education in the Northeast Hamilton Community School at Blairsburg. She lived in Denver, CO for many years working for Mountain Bell. Transferring back to Iowa led to her retirement after 34 years with Qwest. Pam then began work as a 911 dispatcher for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department. Her hard work earned her a nomination for Iowa dispatcher of the year in 2005. She retired from the Sheriff's department in 2011 due to declining health.
Pam is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Darla Patterson of Blairsburg; nieces, Laura (John) Seiser of Blairsburg; Carrie Betts of Des Moines; nephew, Eric (Beth) Patterson of Blairsburg; she was also a loving great-aunt to Owen and Evan Patterson of Blairsburg and Shiloh, Jordan and Colten Betts of Des Moines. She also leaves behind her loyal canine companion, Maggie, who she was separated from for several months due to her illness.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Pam will be deeply missed by her family. She not only had an unbelievably close bond with her brother, Pam was the best aunt anyone could ever ask for, always there to support her family. The memories of her sharp wit, kind heart and generous spirit will be cherished forever. We are comforted by the knowledge of the joyful reunion in Heaven with her parents and her many beloved dogs. Pam now has the best seat in the house to cheer on her Hawkeyes.
The family would like to thank Pam's dear friends for the care they have shown her over the past few months, especially Susan, Marilyn, Rolanda, Donna, Connie, Judy and Jo and her coworkers at the Sheriff's Department.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials to Pam be directed to Animal Lifeline, a no-kill animal shelter where she rescued Maggie.

What I will remember, (and miss) most about Pam was her wonderful sense of humor, and the genuine kindness she showed to people.....Pam could always find something humorous at work to make the day better than it was before. Every conversation I can remember having with Pam always started with her giving a warm smile, and hello, and they always ended with the same friendly smile..... God bless her always!

I met Pam the first day she came to the Des Moines U S West building at 900 Keo. Pam was a great gal with a terrific sense of humor. Always glad she was part of the 'feature group' work force. We had inside jokes that kept us laughing and not 'hurting' co-workers. Sorry to hear of her passing.

We only got to know Pam, from Beth being married to Eric, but what we saw was a very active, full of life and friendly person.
She was truly a special person and we know that her family thought the world of her and will dearly miss her.

I got to know Pam at the sheriffs office. Pam was my partner for a couple years before she retired. I loved working with her. I loved her brutal honesty and her generous personality. It's hard to accept she's not with us anymore. I keep looking beside me at work expecting to see her there. I will miss her very much.

I got to know Pam after I graduated from HS and become good friends with some of the NEH girls. We enjoyed trips back and forth in her white camero and always had laughs. She helped with my wedding. A few years ago I got to see Pam again with more friends, and during her illness I tried to give back to Pam in the way f riendship and laughs. I will miss her smiling face.

Pam and I started together at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and we were not only partners but true friends. I will dearly miss my friend. I once told Pam when she started work that since I had experience and she was brand new to dispatching that I would take her under my wing and help her. Now my friend is in haven and I am under her wing as she watches over me. I will always consider her my partner. You will be missed Pam.
