Roger W. Peter, 71, of Stanhope, died Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the Israel Family Hospice House at Ames. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Dave Simonson officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and at the church prior to the service. Roger Walter Peter, son of Walter and Frances Olsen Peter, was born May 12, 1941 at Webster City. He received his education in the Stanhope Consolidated School where he graduated in 1959. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard at Webster City. On July 10, 1976, he married Helen Joann Hove at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope. The couple farmed northwest of Stanhope. He was in the trucking business for 55 years. They moved to Stanhope in 2004. He is survived by his wife, Helen; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Miriam Peter of Stanhope; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary and Jim Kepler of Webster City; Paul and Linda Hove of Kewanee, IL; Harold and Marcia Hove, Roger Hove, all of Stanhope; several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece in infancy. Roger was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church

Sorry to hear about Roger. Though he was too young, it's difficult to believe how fast the years pass. I remember playing cowboy with him when I was a kid. He was a regular in Sparky's. He will be missed by all - especially Helen and Robert. You have my sympathy.

I've known Roger for many years. I even remember him in school although he was a few grades ahead of me. He's one of those guys who you think will be around forever. I think of him as one of Stanhope's "characters" and I mean that as a compliment. He and his brother Robert were in Sparky's a lot and I was always glad to see him as he was such fun to visit with. He was always friendly . It seems strange - and is very sad - that he won't be there anymore. We will all miss him very much. My thoughts and prayers are with Helen and Robert. God bless!
